Sinopah Mountain

Views from the Summits:
Sinopah Mountain

Sinopah Mountain, Glacier National Park

Sinopah Mountain is the most photographed mountain in the Two Medicine Area because of its location.  This is Two Medicine Lake, and we are facing straight west.  The morning sun is beautifully lighting up Sinopah Mountain.

Sinopah Mountain (8,271 feet) is the most recognizable peak in the Two Medicine Area, and is also the most photographed because it rises above the far shore of Two Medicine Lake, perfectly framed for the perfect photo.  The views from the summit are wonderful in all directions, but the most interesting view is the one that is facing the shore of Two Medicine Lake.  The summit is approximately 3,500 feet above the lake, and the boat dock seems light-years away.

When we reached the summit, there was a Mountain Goat greeting us on the summit, and a family of Ptarmigans were hanging around the summit cairn.  There was a mother with seven babies, and we really enjoyed their company.  The mother even climbed onto the summit cairn and posed for some photos!

Views from the Summit

Sinopah Mountain, Glacier National Park

This is the classic view to the east from the summit of Sinopah Mountain.  The lake directly below David is Two Medicine Lake, with the boat dock and general store located on the far shore.  The lake in the distance is Lower Two Medicine Lake.  The eastern prairie sprawls seemingly forever onto the horizon.

This is a view to the south.  The tall mountain in the distance is Grizzly Mountain, and the smaller peak in the foreground, directly in front of Grizzly Mountain, is Painted Tepee Mountain.

The views from Sinopah Mountain are fantastic!

We are facing northwest.  Flinsch Peak is the matterhorn to the right, Mount Jackson is in the distance to Flinsch's left, Dawson Pass is located at the saddle left of Flinsch, and Mount Helen is the peak on the opposite end of this saddle.  Mount Stimson the tall, flat-topped peak in the distance just behind Mount Helen.   The ridge closest to us that is coming off Mount Helen is called Pumpelly Pillar.

The lake behind us to the west is Upper Two Medicine Lake.  The tall peak in the upper right hand corner of the photo is Mount Phillips.  The peak just above David is Lone Walker Mountain.

Here's one of the little ptarmigan babies that mother ptarmigan was trying to keep track of.  There were seven of them running around on the summit with us.

This is another view to the northwest.  Two Medicine Lake is to the far left of the photo, and Flinsch Peak is the tall matterhorn on the horizon.

Upper Two Medicine Lake sits in a nice cathedral of mountains.  This is a popular place for day hikers to come and have lunch after they've been dropped off by the boat on Two Medicine Lake.

Rising Wolf Mountain dominates the view to the north.  Notice the tan summit of Rising Wolf to the left, and the red colored summit to the right.  The true summit is the tan colored one, and it cannot be seen from the General Store.

Sinopah Mountain, Glacier National Park

This was the last photo we took before we started climbing up a steep couloir to reach the summit of Sinopah about 1,500 feet above us.  Sinopah is surrounded by cliffs, and it's imperative that you find the proper route through them.

This is a view to the south east.  Mount Henry is the tallest point on the horizon (to the left).

This is a great view of Two Medicine Lake and the eastern prairie.  The boat dock and general store sit on the far shore.  We are several thousand feet above the lake. The lake in the distance is Lower Two Medicine Lake.
