Views from the Summits:
Iceberg Peak
This is a view of Iceberg Peak from several hundred feet above Iceberg Lake. We are facing west. It's 3,000 vertical feet from the summit to the lake, and it's literally straight down!
Iceberg Peak towers 3,000 vertical feet directly over Iceberg Lake, and the views from this incredible mountain are breath-taking! No matter where you look, you'll swear you're looking at a post card, and the feeling of "being high" is almost overwhelming. The summit is quite small, and as we've mentioned earlier, the east face of this great mountain falls literally straight down 3,000 vertical feet to the famous Iceberg Lake below. Sneeking a peek over the edge of this huge wall is something you'll never forget!
Iceberg Peak is a long day. It's about a 25 mile day from start to finish, and the climb itself takes a lot of time and energy. To get there, we left our truck at Logan Pass, and we then took the Highline Trail five miles beyond the Granite Park Chalet. That is where the climb begins! So we had to hike about 11 miles before we began climbing.
But the effort was definitely worth it. The views from this mountain are some of the most photogenic in the park. This truly was a day to remember!
This is a view of Iceberg Peak from the summit of Mount Henkel. We are facing west. The great east wall of Iceberg Peak is magnificent, and is a thrill to peek over the edge! Millions of visitors have seen Iceberg Peak because of the popularity of Iceberg Lake, but very few ever get to see the view from the summit.

Views from the Summit
Here we are on the summit of Iceberg Peak. The camera is facing straight north. The lake far in the distance (to the right) is Elizabeth Lake, and the sharp peak just to the left of Shannon is the famous Mount Merritt. Merritt is one of six peaks in the Park that are over 10,000 feet in height. The Glacier to the far left is Ahern Glacier.

The views from the summit of Iceberg Peak are absolutely stunning!
Here's a peek at Iceberg Lake from the summit of Iceberg Peak. We are 3,000 vertical feet directly above the lake! Notice the lake in the far distance (up and to the right). That is Swiftcurrent Lake with the Many Glacier Hotel sitting on its shore.
The summit of Iceberg Peak is rather small, and there are cliffs all around it. It's a great feeling- kind of like being in a helicopter.
This photo shows you some of the peaks that you can see from the summit. We are facing south toward Logan Pass. The Glacier to the right is Swiftcurrent Glacier, and the valley below it is Swiftcurrent Valley, home of Red Rock Falls.
This is the classic view to the north. Mount Merrit is the sharp, central peak with Old Sun Glacier resting on it's east face. Ahern Glacier is to the left.
Just beyond these red colored rocks at your feet is a 3,000 foot drop off!
The ridge to the left is what you hike up to get to the summit of Ahern Mountain. The large glacier just north of Ahern Mountain is Ahern Glacier. The peak to the far right is Mount Merritt.
The lake far below us is Helen Lake, and the lake far in the distance upper right) is Elizabeth Lake. (Elizabeth Lake is the lake you see when you exit the Ptarmigan Tunnel to the north.)
Here's Iceberg lake. We are 3,000 vertical feet directly above it. The far shore, where there are trees and grass, is where all the visitors are enjoying the lake. They look like tiny ants from our vantage point.
You can see the Many Glacier Hotel, far in the distance on the shore of Swiftcurrent Lake.
This is a view to the southwest. The peak just to the right of Shannon is Heaven's Peak. The peak to her left in the foreground is Swiftcurrent Mountain. The mountains behind Swiftcurrent Mountain, far in the distance, is the Logan Pass Area. That is where our truck is parked. We've got a long hike back, but first we've got to climb DOWN Iceberg Peak!

Iceberg Peak is a beautiful mountain with spectacular views. This was a great day that we'll always remember!
