Views from the Summits:
Cannon Mountain
This is a view of Cannon Mountain from the west side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road.
Cannon Mountain (8,952 feet) is located just to the northwest of the Hidden Lake Overlook on Logan Pass. It is a huge mountain that is extremely fun to climb. And as always in Glacier Park, the views from the summit are spectacular.
This great mountain can also be seen on the Going-to-the-Sun Road as you leave the Walk of the Cedars Area and begin driving up the road towards Logan Pass. It is to your right, and the summit is over 5,300 vertical feet directly above the road!
Cannon Mountain (left), is over 5,300 vertical feet above the valley floor. This is a photo of Cannon from Pollock Mountain. We are facing straight west. The Going-to-the-Sun Road runs through this valley on it's way to Lake McDonald Lodge to the west, and Logan Pass to the east. The mountain to the right is Heaven's Peak, and there is a glorious view of this famous peak from the summit of Cannon.
Cannon Mountain is in the center of this photo. Mount Oberlin and Clements Mountain are to the left. Heaven's Peak is to the far right. We are facing west. Notice the Going-to-the-Sun Road below us. This road winds westward down the valley towards Lake McDonald Lodge. And of course the road going the other way heads up to Logan Pass.
Views from the Summit
We are about 500 feet from the summit of Cannon Mountain in this photo. We are facing south. The sharp peak to the left is Clements Mountain, and the lake far below is Hidden Lake. The matterhorn in the distance (to the right) is Reynolds Mountain.
Here we are on Cannon Mountain. Heaven's Peak is directly across from us to the north (the camera is facing north). The valley between us and Heaven's Peak is 5,300 vertical feet below us! This is where you can find the Going-to-the-Sun Road winding it's way up toward Logan Pass (heading east) or heading down to Lake McDonald Lodge (west).
Here's another view to the south. Clements Mountain is the in the center of the photo.
You can see forever from the top of Cannon Mountain. Hidden Lake is to the lower left, with Reynolds Mountain rising above it. Bearhat Mountain is to the right.
This is a "hanging canyon" below us. At the end of it is Bird Woman Falls, a 400+ foot water fall that you can see from the Going-to-the-Sun Road (west side). In this photo, you can see the Sun Road in the distance. The brink of Bird Woman Falls is located at the far end of this canyon.
Shannonn is standing on one of the butresses of Cannon Mountain. The camera is facing north. The mountains to the right are part of the Lewis Range, which includes Mount Cleveland (the tallest mountain near Shannon), and Mount Merritt, just to name a few. The Granite Park Chalet rests on the west side of these mountains, as well as the Highline Trail.
Heaven's Peak is the central mountain, and Mount Vaught is to the left. You can see the Going-to-the-Sun far, far below us. In fact, it is over 5,300 vertical feet below us! We are facing north, and all of the mountains that you see are part of the Livingston Range. This huge range runs all the way into Canada.

This is a view to the east. You can see the Going-to-the-Sun Road winding up the mountain side, heading towards Logan Pass.
